Nigerian Folorunso Alakija, now the world's richest black woman

According to Time report, Nigeria own Folorusho Alakija is now the richest black woman on earth.  She therefore has overtaken Oprah Winfrey who has been the world richest black woman.

 

The Nigerian oil mogul is said to be worth at least $3.3billion.  That is $300 million more than Oprah.

 

The 62-year-old fashionista cut her initial career first as a secretary at the former Merchant Bank of Nigeria and later moved to England in the early 1980s to study fashion.  She returned back to the country and set up a fashion label called Supreme Stitches.

 

However Folorunsho Alakija’s wealth is not from her fashion design outfit but from the oil-exploration license granted her company Famfa Ltd. in 1993.

 

She went into partnership with a foreign company who handles the drilling of oil from the well.
