Dead mouse found in a pack of popcorn already half devoured by a Grandmother

It was supposed to be a family night in, spent watching a DVD and munching through a bag of popcorn.

But the evening they envisaged took a disturbing turn when the grandmother discovered a dead mouse festering at the pit of the popcorn packet. 

The grandmother-of-three, said the experience was so traumatic she will never be able to eat popcorn again. The grandmother, who was watching the DVD with her 24-year-old son, found the dead mouse in the £1 packet of Island Sun popping corn she had purchased from the Tesco Metro in Burnt Oak, north-west London.

She had eaten a portion of the popcorn and was making her way through the rest of the packet on Sunday when she saw the dead rodent at the bottom of it. The woman, who lives in Kingsbury, said: 'I have been throwing up for the last few days since I found it and have hardly been able to eat anything.

'I feel so sick, so sick to the stomach to think I made a bowl of popcorn from this bag.

'My son feels just the same. We are both totally traumatised.'

Two robbers who went to a house to rob instead, sat down to watch TV while snacking on the owner's food

Two burglars who broke into a house and sat and watched the owner's TV while eating his crisps have been arrested after the owner spotted them on a remote surveillance camera.

Security-conscious Chung Chang, 32, was at work when he decided to check his surveillance gear from the office.

To his disbelief, he watched as the two men made themselves comfortable as they wandered around his living room in Linyi, in eastern China's Shandong province. He said: 'I don't know what made me check the remote surveillance camera, perhaps it was a sixth-sense. But when I saw these two men in my flat I was very confused.

 

'At first I thought they might be friends of my son, but when I called him he said he wasn't at home. 'My wife was away on a business trip so I knew they weren't her friends.

'Then I saw them putting on white gloves and looking though my things and I realised they were burglars. And they had the cheek to watch my TV and eat my crisps too.'

Mr Chung then called the police who went straight to the block of flats and knocked on the door.

A police spokesman said: 'When officers arrived the men inside were clearly very surprised.

'We heard lots of swearing coming from the other side of the door and then it went quiet.

'The two men were found hiding under the owner's bed after police and club-wielding security guards went inside.

Mali refuse to accept for burial body of terrorist Amedy Coulibaly

Mali has refused to accept the body of terrorist Amedy Coulibaly in a sudden U-turn the day before he was expected to be buried in the soil of his birth country.

 

The gunman who murdered four hostages in a Kosher delicatessen as well as a policewoman was due to be buried in Bamako today; instead he remains in a fridge in the Forensic Institute in Paris.

 

Malian authorities have reportedly given no reason for the change of heart, which means Coulibaly is now likely to be buried somewhere in France.

 

 

'If Mali refuses to bury him on its territory, he will be buried in France, said government spokesman, Stephanie Le Foll, without elaborating.

 

The 32-year-old small-time dope dealer-cum-terrorist was gunned down by police as they raided the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket in east Paris on January 9, the day police tracked down Charlie Hebdo massacre gunmen Chérif and Saïd Kouachi.

I sat for WASC exams alongside Buhari, Others - Justice Umaru Abdullahi

The President of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal between 1999 and 2009, Justice Umaru Abdullahi, on Wednesday said he sat for the West African School Certificate exams in 1961 alongside Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

In an interview with Leadership newspaper Wednesday, Justice Abdullahi, 75, said he and a few other prominent Nigerians were Mr. Buhari’s classmates at the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina (now Government College, Katsina) and that the APC candidate was among the most brilliant students then.

“I, Buhari and some others had the best results during our final examinations in secondary school back then,” Leadership quoted the retired judge as saying. “He was a very brilliant student in school, no doubt; we attended the same school from primary to secondary school.”

The report also quoted a retired Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Coomasie, as confirming Mr. Buhari’s attendance and graduation from Katsina Provincial College.

The paper quoted Mr. Coomassie as saying, “While we were in school, Buhari was the head boy. He loves playing football. We were all close friends in school. After we finished secondary school, General Buhari decided to join the military, I joined the police and Justice Abdullahi decided to go to the university.”

“I, the late Shehu Yar’Adua, the late Halilu, a Grand Khadi in Katsina, Senator Abdul Ali, a Senator in the 2nd Republic and several other attended the same school.”

Messrs Abdullahi and Coomassie spoke following the controversy over Mr. Buhari’s academic credential.

The PDP had accused the APC presidential candidate of not possessing the requisite academic qualification to stand for election.

On Wednesday, Mr. Buhari addressed a press conference in Kano explaining that he attended and sat for WASC exam with some prominent Nigerians still alive.

A few hours after Mr. Buhari’s speech, PREMIUM TIMES exclusively made public the APC candidate’s statement of result as well as a master list from the University of Cambridge containing the results of his classmates.

The two documents were made available by Mr. Buhari’s old school, Government College, Katsina.

The statement of results is printed on the letter head paper of the Katsina State Ministry of Education, and it shows that the examination took place in 1961.

The Cambridge print out also shows the result of 17 other candidates at the centre, including Shehu Yar’Adua, a former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters.

Controversy over Mr. Buhari’s result escalated Tuesday after the Nigerian Army, which had earlier admitted to having copies of his certificate, reversed itself, saying it could not even attest to the details listed in his records.

The spokesperson of the Army, Olajide Laleye, said “Neither the original copy, certified true copy (CTC) nor statement of result of Major-.Gen. Mohammadu Buhari‘s WASC result is in his personal file.”

He said while it is the practice in the Nigerian Army that before candidates are shortlisted for commissioning into the officers’ cadre of the service, the selection board verifies the original copies of credentials as presented, “There is no available record to show that this process was followed in the 1960s.”

The military’s comments came after the retired general had said that his lost copies of results were with the Army, an explanation he gave ahead of elections February 14.

Five policement in detention for taking 150,000 bribe

Five policemen attached to the Anti-Robbery Squad of the Area M Police Command have been put in detention for allegedly taking a bribe of N150, 000 from a suspected fraudster.

It was gathered that the police officers had arrested the complainant, identified simply as Ifeanyi, for allegedly engaging in internet fraud.

He was said to have been led to the nearest ATM to make withdrawal so as to be free of the accusation.

 

A police source said, “The incident happened on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. The five police officers arrested him and then took him to the ATM.

“After the withdrawal of an initial sum of N100, 000, they asked him to make a transfer of the remaining sum.

“After he did that, they freed him and allowed him to go.”

Ifeanyi was said to have petitioned the police, asking for the probe of the five men and claiming that he was innocent of the accusation.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspected cops were rounded up and put into detention.

Another source said the men were being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, pending the conclusion of police investigation.

“The police officers are from different divisions, but they are all under Area M Police Command,” he added.

Two of them were identified as Sergeant Ogbole and Corporal Collins.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, said the police were investigating the petition, adding that anybody found culpable would be punished.

He said, “In line with the Commissioner of Police’s stance on anti-corruption, transparency and professional conduct, we arrested the officers. The CP has said he has zero tolerance for corruption.

“We got information and the policemen were picked up by officers from the state CID, to ascertain the veracity of the allegation.

“The investigation will be thorough. And if anybody is found on the wrong side of our code of ethics, the person will be dealt with.”

APC and PDP supporters clashed today in Lagos

PDP and APC supporters were said to have clashed early today at the Ekoro Junction, Command Road in Abule Egba area of Lagos.

 

APC supporters were carrying out a rally when they were confronted by PDP supporters according to an eye witness.  Dangerous weapons were used.  Fortunately, no life was lost.

We steal cars in Lagos, sell them in Cotonou

Four suspected car snatchers, who are now in the custody of the Lagos State Police Command, have explained how they snatched expensive vehicles in different areas of the state and sold them to buyers in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

The suspects are Raoul Dedavi, Bright Ekeocha, Aziza Akobu and Adebayo Peter.

According to the police, Dedavi, a Beninoise car dealer who is based in Cotonou, is one of the alleged receivers of the vehicles stolen by the gang.

 

Our correspondent learnt that information had reached the Commissioner of Police, Cornelius Aderanti, about the gang’s activities, and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Commander, SP Abba Kyari, was directed to apprehend the gang members.

 

The suspects, except Dedavi, were arrested on January 5 at about 5pm in the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos.

The suspects were said to have confessed that they delivered the stolen vehicles to Dedavi in Cotonou, who allegedly sold them and shared the money.

A few days later, the SARS reportedly apprehended Dedavi from his hideout in Cotonou, and also recovered a stolen Toyota Venza at the scene.

Dedavi, the 45-year-old Benin national said the gang’s mode of operation.  Dedavi added that he had worked with different gangs to steal cars in Lagos, and sell them in Cotonou since 2012.

He said, “I work as a car dealer in Cotonou where I also live. I did not start selling stolen vehicles, but in 2012, I met some Lagos-based robbers who began to bring stolen vehicles across the border for me to sell.

“The deal is that they steal and bring the vehicles, while I sell and give them their share. I don’t sell such vehicles to Nigerians. I sell them to other West African countries. In 2013, I got six stolen vehicles from Lagos. In 2014, I got three. It was Peter (Adebayo) that I knew first among this gang. He came to buy second-hand clothes in my place.

“He told me the gang had a stolen Toyota Venza to sell and they brought it. I gave them N1.5m. my plan was to sell it for N2m or more. I did not know that the police were on the trail of that car. They spent about five days in my area, monitoring me before they were able to arrest me. I went into all this because of greed. I am very repentant now.”

Ekeocha, 25, from Owerri North, Imo State, said he disguised as a buyer while Akobu disguised as a technician during which they stole the Toyota Venza from their victim.

He said, “Apart from Dedavi, there are other receivers of stolen vehicles which our gang used. When we stole one Lexus jeep and sold it, I made about N200,000. I pretended to be a buyer while Aziza (Akobu) pretended to be a technician and I went to our victim’s sales office because he was a car dealer too.

“When he brought out the vehicle for us to test-drive, we fled with it. The vehicle was stolen on December 18, 2014, and it was with us till December 29 when we then took it Alhaji Cotonou (Dedavi).”

Akobu, 23, from Orlu, Imo State and 38-year-old Peter from Modakeke, Osun State, added that they were expecting N300,000 each as their share before the police rounded them up.

The Lagos State Police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the arrest, adding that investigation continued on the matter at the SARS.

He said, “The owner of the Toyota Venza is one Thomas Nwaonicha, who is a car dealer at Kilometer 52, Lagos-Ibadan Expresssway. He initially reported the matter at the Area H Command, Ogudu.

“The police were able to locate the suspects, who have also confessed to the crime. The case is under investigation at the SARS, Ikeja.”
